D. A. Chu

D. Allen Chu received the B.S. degree from the National Taiwan University, Taipei, R.O.C., and the Ph.D. degree from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, in 1981 and 1989, respectively, both in atmospheric sciences. He joined the ISAMS Science Team, NASA Langley Research Center in 1988, working on the ozone and nitric acid retrieval and line-by-line and broadband radiative transfer modeling from 1989 to 1995. In 1996, he joined the MODIS aerosol team as a Project Manager at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, working on MODIS aerosol retrieval over land, leading a quality assurance team, and serving as a key liaison between the MODIS aerosol team and MODIS Science Data Support and instrument Calibration Teams. In 2004, he joined the Joint Center for Earth Science and Technology, University of Maryland Baltimore County, Baltimore, as Associate Research Scientist. His current research interests include the application of MODIS AOD to air quality in the U.S., the evaluation of aerosol radiative forcing during the INTEX field experiment, and the effects on MODIS aerosol size (fine versus coarse) retrieval, and the intercomparison between model (e.g., GOCART, GEOS-CHEM, and CMAQ) and MODIS-derived aerosol properties for climate change.
