Alexander Jorge Cortez

Alexander Cortez is a graduate of Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland (with degree in medical biotechnology). Master thesis entitled “Cloning of thrombospondin-2 gene to assess its role in serous ovarian cancer” was conducted in Tumor Biology Division at Oncology Center in Gliwice under supervision of Katarzyna Lisowska, PhD. MSc title was acquired in 2011. After graduating, he continued his work with Katarzyna Lisowska, PhD research team focusing his work on characterizing the role of particular genes in ovarian cancer biology and also being involved in NCN (National Science Centre) research project “Biological interactions of ovarian cancer cells with omental derived adipose stem cells (O-ASC)”. At the turn of 2012/2013 he worked as an intern under supervision of prof. Ann Klopp at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas where he was involved in research on omental derived adipose stem cells. In 2011-2016 he was a scholarship beneficiary of the EU project INTERKADRA coordinated by Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in cooperation with Silesian University of Technology, Oncology Center in Gliwice and Genomed S.A.. As part of the INTERKADRA scholarship, he completed his PhD studies in bioinformatics. From 2016 he’s a student at Oncology Center Phd studies program in the field of medical biology. At the beginning of 2017 he opened the process of accruing his PhD title (thesis title: “The influence of ITGBL1 protein on ovarian cancer cells phenotype”).
