My research focuses on identifying predictive biomarkers of function which could facilitate an earlier and more informed diagnosis, with a focus towards multiple neurodevelopmental disorders including cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury and autism spectrum disorder. I work as part of an international team to facilitate early detection of children with disabilities through both early imaging and genetics, with Stella Maris Scientific Institute (Italy), Phoenix Children’s Hospital (America), Queensland Cerebral Palsy and Rehabilitation Research Centre (UQ), and Monash University, contributing to the advanced MRI analyses in multiple cerebral palsy and upper limb intervention studies. Using tools that I have introduced for characterizing brain structure from MRIs in a way that is robust to potentially severe brain injury, I have helped provide an understanding of the neuroplastic mechanisms underpinning response to injury and intervention.
