My primary research activity has been in the areas of HIV, HCV and HBV clinical epidemiology, and more recently influenza, both as a collaborating statistical epidemiologist, and as a lead researcher. I am the principal statistician for the Icona Foundation Study, and have been critically involved with the design, analysis and publication of results, and the initiation and management of an additional 10 years of follow-up, starting from September 2007. I am responsible for several statistical analyses of the EuroSIDA cohort study, and my main research focus is concerned with the use and effects of antiretroviral treatment against resistant strains of HIV. A specific project using new generation sequencing and the data of COHERE led to international recognition and a publication.I have been involved in the statistical analysis of the data from the UK Collaborative Group on HIV Resistance providing my expertise and leading a number of projects. I have key involvement in all these studies and I am a member of the steering and supervisory committee of the Icona and EuroSIDA.My work in HIV clinical epidemiology has led to numerous publications and conference presentations since 1994. I have received extensive training in the design and analysis of randomized clinical trials (University of Minnesota, 2009-2011) and I have developed a strong interest in causal inference after training received at the LSHTM and University North Carolina Chapel Hill (September 2019).
