Bio
Dr. Abdelmonem is leading an independent research in the fields of physics and chemistry of the atmosphere on the molecular level, with a research program funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). His research focuses on quantifying environmental interactions with an emphasis on the interaction of air, water, and ice with mineral, organic, and biological substances in the hydrosphere and atmosphere. Dr. Abdelmonem has expertise in physical chemistry, molecular characterization of surfaces, lab and field experiments, and development of optical instruments for climate research. He received his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and have held several research positions throughout his career, including his current position as a Principal Investigator (PI) at the Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research - Atmospheric Aerosol Research (IMK-AAF), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany.
Dr. Abdelmonem has received several prizes, awards, and memberships throughout his career, including a R&D award from KIT in 2013 for the development and deployment of in-site cloud particle probes. He is a member of the international steering committee of the European Conference on Non-Linear Optical Spectroscopy (ECONOS), as well as a member of the European Geosciences Union (AGU) and the American Chemical Society (ACS). In addition to his research, Dr. Abdelmonem has organized several scientific meetings throughout his career, including serving as the Conference Chair for the European Conference on Non-Linear Optical Spectroscopy (ECONOS) in 2021 and the Session Convener for the European Geophysical Union (EGU) General Assembly from 2017-2023.
